Vikram Phadnis was born in Mumbai on Thursday, October 24, 1968. He attended Mumbai’s Saint Andrews High School for his education. He received his diploma from MMK College in Bandra. Phadnis’ parents pushed him to become a doctor because he came from a family of medical professionals. However, he was keenly interested in the entertainment sector and began choreographing dances during his undergraduate years. He participated in one of the fashion exhibitions as a designer, and other designers urged him to pursue this professionally. 

Phadnis debuted his first collection in 1991. He displayed his collection in 2005 with international cricketers, including Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath, and Jonty Rhodes. He created the outfits for Naomi Campbell in 2009 when she participated in the “Mai Mumbai” charity event, which was held to collect money after the 2008 Mumbai 26/11 terrorist assault.  

Hrudayantar, a 2017 Marathi film, was directed by Phadnis, which was his directorial debut, and Smile Please in 2019. Phadnis wrote the stories for both movies. Hrudayantar was nominated for twelve Filmfare Marathi Awards in 2018, with Phadnis taking home the Best Costumes prize. Also, for the film “Smile Please,” in the Best Director category of the 2020 Filmfare Marathi Awards, Phadnis was nominated.

He has designed costumes for several Bollywood movies, including Biwi No.1 (1999), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006), Salaam-e-Ishq (2007), Namastey London (2007), Golmaal Returns (2008), Dulha Mil Gaya (2010), and others. He received the Global Indian Film Award and the IIFA Award for Best Costume Design for Mujhse Shaadi Karogi in 2005.
